Gable Patios

A patio that looks like it was always part of the house.

A flat roof is neat and economical, but over a larger entertaining area it can feel low, and on a classic or federation-style home it can look like an add-on.

A gable lifts the centre of the roof into a pitched peak. You get a higher, more open ceiling, better airflow on warm days, and a roofline that can mirror the house, so the patio becomes a feature rather than something tucked under the eaves.

As the Coast’s authorised Stratco and Stratco Outback dealer, with over a decade in business and more than 35 years of industry experience, we design every gable to suit the proportions of your home. It sits alongside our full range of Stratco patios on the Central Coast.

Gable options

One roof shape. Three ways to build it.

Open entertaining gable

A pitched roof over the main outdoor living area. The open feel suits classic and federation homes especially well and makes a feature of the space for bigger gatherings.

Best for: traditional homes, larger entertaining spaces, a feature roofline

Insulated Cooldek gable

Cooldek insulated panels pair with the gable profile, giving roof, insulation and a clean ceiling-like finish in one. Less heat transfer and less rain noise, with thicknesses from 50mm to 150mm.

Best for: hot aspects, year-round use, fans and lighting

Gable carport

The same pitched profile over the driveway gives extra clearance for 4WDs, caravans and larger vehicles, with a roofline that can match the patio and the house.

Best for: front-of-house carports, taller vehicles, street appeal

The reason you're building

It was never really about the roof shape. It's about how the space feels under it.

A higher ceiling with the fans going. Air that moves on a warm afternoon. A patio that looks like it belongs to the house. We build the structure. You get the space you actually wanted.

Frequently asked

The questions everyone asks.

What is a gable patio?

A gable patio has a pitched, triangular roof that rises to a peak in the centre, rather than a flat or skillion roof. The extra height creates a more open ceiling and better airflow, and the roofline can be designed to match your house.

A gable roof typically adds a premium in the order of 15 to 25 per cent over a flat roof of the same footprint. As a guide, a mid-size 6m x 4m insulated gable patio sits around $13,000 to $20,000, and a large gable entertaining area runs from about $18,000. See our patio cost guide for more, then book a free on-site consultation and fixed-fee quote on 0494 571 131.

A flat roof is the most economical shape and tucks neatly under existing eaves, which suits modern homes and tighter spaces. A gable adds height, airflow, light and street presence, and suits larger entertaining areas and traditional homes. On smaller homes a gable needs careful proportions so it doesn’t look oversized. Our patio roof types guide compares the options.

It depends on the size, height, placement and design. Some patios meet exempt development criteria under NSW state planning rules, while others need a formal application. We handle the approval process for you as part of our service.
