Flyover Patios

More headroom, more light, and no hot pocket under the eaves.

A standard patio attaches under the gutter. On homes with low eaves that can mean a low ceiling, a darker room behind it and warm air trapped against the house, so the patio feels cramped before the furniture goes in.

A flyover patio is raised above the existing roofline instead. The extra height lets light reach the windows behind it and gives warm air somewhere to escape, so the space feels open and stays more comfortable in summer.

As the Coast’s authorised Stratco and Stratco Outback dealer, with over a decade in business and more than 35 years of industry experience, we design each flyover around your roof, your aspect and your block. It sits alongside our full range of Stratco patios on the Central Coast.

Ways to use a flyover

One raised roof. Three ways to put it to work.

Flyover over a deck

Raise the roof over a new or existing deck so the whole area sits under one open, airy cover. Our Wamberal project pairs a flyover with a new timber deck and integrated stairs.

Best for: elevated decks, homes with low eaves, bigger entertaining areas

Insulated Cooldek flyover

Cooldek insulated panels give you roof, insulation and a clean ceiling-like finish in one product. The insulated core cuts heat transfer and reduces rain noise, with thicknesses from 50mm to 150mm.

Best for: hot aspects, year-round use, hiding wiring for fans and lights

Flyover carport

The same raised design works over the driveway. Mounted above the existing roofline for extra height and clearance, with fascia riser brackets keeping it tight to the home's profile.

Best for: carports beside the house, taller vehicles, a roofline that matches the patio

The reason you're building

It was never really about the roof height. It's about how the space feels once you're under it.

Room to stand up straight with the fans on. Light still reaching the kitchen. Air that moves on a still January afternoon. We build the structure. You get the space you actually wanted.

Frequently asked

The questions everyone asks.

What is a flyover patio?

A flyover patio is a patio roof raised above the existing roofline of the house, rather than attached under the gutter. It sits on posts and brackets that lift it clear of the eaves, which gives more height, light and airflow underneath.

Pricing depends on the size, the roof (single-skin or insulated Cooldek), and the connection and flashing work needed to tie into your roof. Our patio cost guide covers typical ranges, and every project starts with a free on-site consultation and a fixed-fee quote. Call 0494 571 131 to book in.

It depends on your home. A flyover suits homes with low eaves, rooms that would lose light under a standard patio, and hot aspects where trapped heat is a problem. A standard attached patio can be simpler and cheaper where the eave height is already generous. We’ll talk through both at the consultation.

It depends on the size, height, placement and design. Some patios meet exempt development criteria under NSW state planning rules, while others need a formal application. Because a flyover sits higher than a standard patio, we check your block against the rules first and handle any approval for you as part of our service.

Yes. Stratco Cooldek insulated panels work with flyover designs, giving a clean ceiling-like finish, less heat transfer and less rain noise. Our Stratco insulated patio roofing page has more detail.

Yes. Our Wamberal project is a Stratco flyover patio with an insulated Cooldek roof over a new timber deck with integrated stairs. We also build custom decks across the Central Coast, so the deck and the roof can be designed together.

The entire Central Coast, including Tuggerah, Wyong, Gosford, Woy Woy, Bateau Bay and surrounding suburbs. We also service parts of Lake Macquarie.
